Hi to everyone.
I was searching for things about The 7th guest online and got to this forum. I played the 7th guest a lot and have always though that these guys of Trilobyte were some kind of visionary. I think it may be the first videogame that used real actors, among other things.
In any case, what brought me to post here was asking is where I could find the Stauf Files that came along with The 7th Guest when they were sold first, specially the newspaper clippings they included. Appart from buying a game sold at ebay, are there any other means of getting them?
I am interested in exploring the backstory behind the 7th guest which is not fully stated in the game. At this moment I am writting a small "pen and paper" roleplaying module partially based on the 7th guest and its seven guests and would like to find more information about the original game (by the way if someone is interested on knowing more about this small project, just ask).
I have not played the 11th hour, but as long as I know it, it doesn't feature too much about the six guests (some don't appear at all), the story of how Stauf grew rich, the infections and that kind of things. Of course, Stauf himself appears, which is a nice reason for playing it (I love that character), in any case.
Appart from that, some questions about the 7th Guest: -Is there anything more known about Tad? The only that can be seen on the 7th Guest (appart from the final scene, but I don't want to tell spoilers) is that he was a neighbour who just made a "truth or dare" which his friends and got inside the house. -Were the six guests based on some real or ficticious character? Did they have any kind of linkings with actual characters or events of the time? -Appart from Edward and Elinor Knox, do the guests know each other before entering the house? -Is the invitation they receive available somewhere? Maybe on the Stauf Files? -Did they all live in Harley-on-the-Hudson? Did they all know the story about Henry Stauf (retired toymaker, some cases of a virus linked with the toys he made, etc.)? -By the way, what size is Harley-on-the-Hudson supposed to be? Hundreds of people? Thousands, ten-thousands or more? -Why did Stauf chose specifically the persons he chose (and not others)?

Hey there and welcome to the forum!
You said: "I am interested in exploring the backstory behind the 7th guest which is not fully stated in the game. For good background on the guest you should try to obtain the novel of The 7th Guest.
Here is some info: Title: The 7th Guest, a Novel ISBN No: 0-7615-0086-3 Written by: Matthew Costello and Graig Shaw Gardner By Prima Publishing
I own the book myself and its quite a good read!
Grtz!

-Is there anything more known about Tad? The only that can be seen on the 7th Guest (appart from the final scene, but I don't want to tell spoilers) is that he was a neighbour who just made a "truth or dare" which his friends and got inside the house.
He got in through the kitchen (a windowframe was rotten) and was dared by a kid named Billy Dumphy
-Were the six guests based on some real or ficticious character? Did they have any kind of linkings with actual characters or events of the time?
Far as I know its all made up. The house however is based on a actual house (the exterior) but I cant recall the details on that house...
-Appart from Edward and Elinor Knox, do the guests know each other before entering the house?
The story in the book isnt 100% clear about this, it doesnt describe any of them together before they enter the house. Furthermore: they all have a own chapter in the book in witch they are introduced to the reader, they all tell complete separate storys and it does in no way imply thay they know each other.
-Is the invitation they receive available somewhere? Maybe on the Stauf Files?
Im sorry to say ive never seen the Stauf Files, if its not in there than I dont think it exists.
-Did they all live in Harley-on-the-Hudson? Did they all know the story about Henry Stauf (retired toymaker, some cases of a virus linked with the toys he made, etc.)?
I dont remember and I just flipped through the book and I cant really find any mention of where the guest resides. And some knew the story, maybe all im not sure
-By the way, what size is Harley-on-the-Hudson supposed to be? Hundreds of people? Thousands, ten-thousands or more?
Pffff... cant really say, I get the vibe that its maybe thousands of people (like 3000 or 4000?), at a certain point Stauf does run in to a cop that recognizes him so that makes me think its a small community
-Why did Stauf chose specifically the persons he chose (and not others)? [/quote]

We need to get Matt Costello here to fill in the backstory. I can tell you that the exterior of the Stauf Mansion is based on the Nunan House which is an historic house of the Victorian era situated only a couple hundred yards from the old Trilobyte offices in Jacksonville Oregon. Our very first intent was to shoot the interior of the rooms of the house and use dynamic panoramic photography. But the advent of 3D Studio, coupled with Graeme's video codec and player, changed everything.

Fans might also be interested to know that the Nunan House is now a bed & breakfast along with what looks like a very decent restaurant/lounge. Sure the interiors are entirely different, but it'd be kinda cool I think to spend the night in the real Stauf Mansion. The lodging prices seem very reasonable too! http://www.nunanestate.com

Nice - if only it was really situated at the top of a cliff-top path, as on the original box! Mind you, if that really had been the case, it might have given way to erosion by now....

On your recommendation I just bought it from Amazon Marketplace for the princely sum of £1.71. As new, obviously not read by its previous owner which is a bit sad but I shall enjoy it.
